Materials to Generate Hydrogen Continuously by Aluminium and Water Reaction at Room Temperature and Normal Pressure

Abstract. To reduce the cost of hydrogen production by the reaction between aluminium and NaBH4 water solution, and to solve the equipment corrosion problem caused by NaOH, hydrogen generation by Al composite containing in-situ nano ceramic particles and water reaction was conducted. SEM observation illustrated that the nano particles were well distributed within Al matrix and its size was 10 to 50 nm while the XRD results testified that the remained reaction products were Al(OH)3, Al2O3 and TiB2, which prove that hydrogen can be generated continuously by this kind of reaction with a yield rate of 100%. The hydrogen evolution reaction was attributed to electrochemical corrosion of materials caused by the different electrode potential of particle and Al.
