An Experimental Study on Initiation Process of H_2/Air Rotating Detonation Engine

An experimental study on a rotating detonation engine using hydrogen/air mixture was conducted to analyze the initiation process of detonation wave.Spark plug with different ignition energy were applied as the ignition device.The initiation process of rotating detonation wave was recorded and analyzed by a high frequency pressure measurement system and high-speed photographs.Series of experiments provided the operating range of the RDE.Results indicates that the engine could be successfully run by spark plug.Rotating detonation wave is formed through flame acceleration and DDT process,and the formation time of detonation wave reduces significantly with a higher ignition energy.The engine has three operation mode,and the stable operating range is extended with the increase of fuel mass rate.Different operation modes could be converted each other with the change of equivalence ratio.
